The Gospel

I hate being sick.  The fever and achiness are bad enough.  But more than that, while I’m lying around in bed, I know everyone else is out doing life and having fun. And I’m always afraid I’m going to miss out on something good.

If you were like me and unable to be at church last Sunday when Dr. Larry Moyer spoke, then you missed something not just good, but great.

Listen to these quotes:

  • About the simplicity of the Gospel:  “The Bible is 66 books, the Gospel is 10 words:  Christ-died-for-my-sins-and-rose-from-the-dead.”
  • When it comes to sharing your faith: “Everyone is fearful…You take care of your obedience, God will ALWAYS take care of your fear.”
  • And my favorite:  “You don’t need to be a brilliant person with a clever mind, but a broken person with a clear message.”

More than these easy to remember quotes (and I just chose a few), as I listened on line to this powerful speaker, I was in awe of how God takes what the world would consider a broken man and once again proves that His power is perfected in our weakness.

I hope you’ll take about 25 minutes to listen to his inspiring message, as well as his follow up seminar.  Both can be found on our website: www.fellowshipdallas.org.  I can promise, it will be one of the most uplifting and informative hours you’ll spend this summer!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  The Fall Leader Rally will be held Saturday morning, August 27th, here at the church.  We have a lot of great things in store for you, so you won’t want to miss it!

FINALLY:  “Taste of Community”, our opportunity to highlight all of our community groups, will be held two consecutive Sundays, September 11th and 18th.  Begin talking with your members now about how your group will be represented.

Mark your calendar - Dr. Larry Moyer at Fellowship July 31!

“How to Talk to Your Relatives about Spiritual Things”!
Sunday, July 31 12:30-2:00 with Dr. Larry Moyer, CEO and Founder of Evantell

On Sunday, July 31, Fellowship Dallas will be celebrating the “foolishness” of evangelism! Dr. Larry Moyer, Founder, President and CEO of Evantell Ministries will be speaking in our Sunday morning services on the topic, “What kind of person do you have to be to lead someone to Jesus Christ?” Come hear what this respected, 38-year evangelist has to say. You may be surprised – what you don’t think you need, you do, and what you do think you need, you don’t!

Following our Sunday morning services, from 12:30 to 2:00pm, Dr. Moyer will teach a lunch-seminar on “How to Talk to Your Relatives about Spiritual Things”. Many of us struggle with the particularly heavy burden of beloved family members that have not embraced God’s gift of salvation through Christ’s sacrifice. Yet family members are often some of the hardest ones to talk to about the Lord. Larry will share the five do’s and the three don’ts in speaking to your relatives about Christ. Every attendee will receive a printed handout to take notes  on and to take home with you. You will leave the seminar convinced - perhaps for the first time - that you now know how to speak to your own family about the Lord. This seminar that has helped many lead family members to Christ, so don’t miss it!

Lunch and Child-Care will be provided at the church beginning at 12:30 (a suggested donation of $5/person for the lunch will be accepted, yet not required). Please RSVP your attendance to the lunch and/or seminar to .org';h1995828584='fellowshipdallas.org';document.write('' + linktext + ''); . If you have questions or need more information, please contact Thad Harris at the above email address, or call 972-852-4150.

New West Area Pastor!

Randy

It is my great pleasure to announce that as of June 1 Randy Thompson will be serving Fellowship Dallas as our West Area Pastor!  Randy is originally from Houston, TX where he grew up in the Northwest suburbs of the city.  After receiving undergraduate degrees in Finance and Government at the University of Texas at Austin in 2001, he moved back to Houston and began working at his home church as their information technology director, while serving in their student ministry as a High School Bible Study leader and as the College Ministry Director. He would later become the Junior High Pastor and the College/Young Singles Pastor before moving to Dallas to attend Dallas Theological Seminary. He is currently finishing a Master of Theology degree with a focus on Pastoral Ministry. He has a passion for teaching, preaching and influencing the Church to further Christ’s kingdom.

Randy met his wife, Jennifer, while in school at UT-Austin and they were later married in the fall of 2006. They began attending Fellowship Dallas as soon as they moved here and, in the spring of 2009, Randy began as the church’s Junior High Program Director with the Fellowship Student Ministries Team. This past year, he has served FSM as their Teaching Coordinator, writing curriculum for student community groups and helping develop teaching series and events. He has also served this year as the West Area Coach and will continue as the leader of Fellowship Dallas’ Discussion Guide writing team.

As West Area Pastor, Randy will pastor all FBCD covenant members and attendees living in the West Area, as well as lead and develop all West Area groups and leaders.  He will work alongside our members, groups and group leaders in the West to establish initiatives to fulfill our desired outcome of community transformation.  He will continue to lead our curriculum writing team and will assume co-leadership of select assimilation responsibilities alongside Mitzi Arellano.

Randy enjoys being an amateur foodie, analyzing movies, talking politics, reading good books, watching television (when time permits) and following Longhorn Sports (Hook ‘Em).

Fellowship Serves - in Community

We are in a new sermon series on serving as we prepare for this year’s Fellowship Serves event. Last Sunday’s message encouraged us to consider our motivation for serving.  To avoid burn out we need to be motivated by the right thing – the Gospel of Jesus! Only when we believe the truth of the Gospel, the story of Jesus, will we experience sustaining power and joy when we serve.

Serving is an outflow of Missional Living initiated by the power of the Gospel. One of the values every community group at Fellowship Bible should hold is Missional Living. This value is not something the leadership of Fellowship Bible created arbitrarily. As we read the Bible one cannot escape the fact that God is on mission – reconciling creation to Himself ultimately through sending the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit for His Glory and creation’s good. God is the one on mission and He has invited us to join Him as He restores creation from its state of desperate corruption.

As one joins God in His mission of making Himself known he or she is also joined with other Christians drawn to the same mission – this unified gathering is the Church. The mission has a church. That is, God’s mission builds the Church.

A local connected group of Christians in its diversity of gifts along with their combined resources can make a bigger impact on their respective city than an individual Christian could. In the same way, a Community Group can make a bigger impact on the area of the city in which the members live. Imagine a concerted effort of multiple community groups that live in a specific area of town joining together to make an even bigger impact on their city. This kind of collective effort is what an event like Fellowship Serves hopes to produce. Not just a one time service project, but long-term commitment to the places where we live.

Consider where your Community Group gathers and where the members live. Have you considered the needs of this area of town in which you live and gather with other Christians? Have you considered partnering with other Community Groups in your area to meet the needs where you live and gather? Connect with your Area Coach or Area Pastor and discuss where you would like to explore missional living in your area of town. Let’s not ignore the resources we have in Christ and in His unified body, the Church. I pray we believe the Gospel, in which all power and joy resides that enables us to join God in His mission.
