No Hungry Child FAQs

When do you deliver the Blessing Boxes?
-This is determined by the family/group delivering. It does need to be the same day each week to maintain a level of consistency with the receiving family.

How do you get a family?
-Contact Tony Harding Jr () if you are interested in delivering boxes.

How do you determine what family gets a box?
-We’ve asked local schools to identify their most “at need” students and sent consent forms home for parents to sign.

What kind of food is in the Blessing Box?
-Healthy, non-perishable foods are placed into each Blessing Box.

Do I have to supply my own food and box?
-Fellowship supplies the boxes and the food. However, you are certainly welcome to supply your own food. Just pick up an empty Blessing Box and fill it with the food items listed on its side.

Where do I pick up the box from to deliver it?
-To pick up a previously filled box, stop by the food pantry after the 11:00am service. Empty boxes needing to be filled will be stationed at the front desk near the south entrance of the church. If none is available, please contact Tony Harding Jr. ()

Will I be refunded for my gas?
-There won’t be any reimbursement for gas.

What if the family isn’t home when I get there?
-Return the Blessing Box to Fellowship the next time you’re there and email Tony Harding Jr. ()

What kinds of questions am I allowed to ask?
-One of the main goals of this initiative is to build community among families. Please allow conversations to happen naturally. Discern the comfort level between both families and ask questions accordingly.

Am I expected to give them money?
-Our policy is to never give money. Use wisdom and discernment in determining whether or not to give money but only consider this after your family reaches a certain relationship level with the receiving family.

Other than delivering the food, what else is expected of me?
-The heart behind the NHC initiative is to transform our neighborhood through supplying food to those in need, but also to build community between families for the sake of spreading the Gospel. We ask all delivering families/groups to allow this community to be built naturally, and to cultivate these relationships to bring God glory.

Do I need to be in a NHC service Group?
-Being in a community group is all that’s required to become a delivering family/group.

Where does the food come from?
-Much of the food came from the Build-A-Box project in which Fellowship families were asked to take an empty box and fill it with preselected items. We also get food from North Texas Food Bank and local grocery stores.

Can I add to the box, if so what sort of items can I add?  What should I not put in the box?
-You are more than welcome to add to the box. Please refrain from putting any medicines (including those from an over-the-counter pharmacy), expired foods, offensive material, and anything else that would be contradictory to the advancement of the Gospel.

Can we invite the family to our home for dinner?  And likewise can we accept an invite from them for dinner at their home?
-This is highly encouraged once the relationship between families reaches a point where this would not be out of the ordinary.

What level of commitment is expected of me?
-A weekly level of commitment is the most advantageous for both families. We realize priorities and previous commitments may prevent families this, so committing to a bi-weekly or even monthly delivery is also acceptable.

What do I say to the family?
-This is largely based on your personality. Be cordial and polite, honor God, and speak honestly and sincerely. Allow conversations to naturally take place and if/when an opportunity presents itself, ask if there’s anything that you can be praying about!

Should I go inside their homes?
-If a family invites you into their home and you feel that it is safe, proceed. Use caution and discernment.

Can I bring my kids?
-Bringing your kids is one of the best ways to lead by example. When they see their parents exemplifying the love of God, it reinforces God’s truth in their hearts and increases the “stickiness” of their faith!

Is it safe to go into these apartment complexes with my family?
-While we cannot predict each unique circumstance, we do advise families to use caution and wisdom when delivering a Blessing Box. Always be aware of your surroundings. We have taken measures to screen each apartment complex as best as we can, and will notify all delivering families of apartments that “stand out”.
